MLA Marine Insurance & General Average Committee: Spring 2023 Agenda

The Marine Insurance & General Average Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. (EDT), at the offices of Clyde & Company, located at 405 Lexington Avenue, 16th floor, room 1, in midtown New York..  Registration, in advance, is required.  To register for in-person attendance, please email [email protected].  To register for Zoom participation, log on to https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAqf-qtpjMsE9DsekejmECPp6Q_QcA_kaH2.  After registering for Zoom, remote registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Our keynote speaker for the meeting is Captain John Lowe, the President of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors.  He will explain how accredited marine surveyors contribute to nearly every phase of marine insurance from underwriting to claims handling in the context of modern yacht marine insurance policies.

Katharina Kraatz-Dunkel, of Zelle, LLP and the MLA’s Young Lawyers Committee will discuss the marine insurance case Great Lakes Insurance SE v. Raiders Retreat Realty Co., which the Supreme Court granted certiorari.

Joseph G. Grasso, of Wiggin and Dana LLP, and Jonathan S. Spencer, of The Spencer Company, will update us on the activities of the Comité Maritime International, including on the “Guidelines Relating To General Average.”
