This webinar will explore global enforcement regimes for arbitration awards and mediated settlement agreements. The 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards has been described as the most successful multilateral treaty in private international law. As the New York Convention celebrates its 60th year, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) approved the final draft of a new Convention on the Enforcement of Mediation Settlements (the “Singapore Convention”). What accounts for the success of the New York Convention and is there a need for reform at age 60? Will the Singapore Convention give mediation the same credibility as arbitration as an effective means of international dispute resolution? Tune in on December 13 for the insight of two experienced practitioners.
