Autonomous Ships and Smart Marine Technology’s Docs Materials from Fall 2023 Meeting in San Francisco

Greetings Committee Members,

I wanted to first extend my appreciation for those who were able to attend our joint meeting in San Francisco in person.  The feedback we have received is entirely positive, and this meeting serves as a springboard for what we can accomplish next.  A main takeaway was a discussion on how we can serve as a resource to federal agencies in examining complex maritime law issues to support their efforts – we have the expertise, so let’s continue to explore those opportunities.

In this vein, I have attached a useful case survey on matters related to product liability which was prepared by Joshua DuBois.  Joshua is a second-year law student at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. Joshua became a member of the Maritime Law Association after his internship at the Department of Justice’s Office of Aviation, Space, & Admiralty Litigation.  Part of our role as Members and Proctors is to promote law students (and future lawyers) with opportunities for involvement (…and employment), so I thank Josh his time on this summary.

Lastly, I have attached a meeting summary as graciously prepared by LCDR Salomee Briggs, USCG.  LCDR Briggs is a superstar in CGJAG, and we appreciate her support here!

There is certainly more to come with our Committee, so stay tuned.

Kind Regards,

Sean
